I bought this mic to replace the exact same mic I bought 10 years ago but lost. 90% of my videos are musical performances and concerts. To get a decent angle you need some distance from the scene. The last thing you want is the camcorder's built-in microphones picking up dinner conversations in close proximity to the camcorder. In very noisy places, a shotgun mount picks up the audio with a narrow beam (like those used to record end zone conversations at soccer games). In quieter rooms, 90- or 120-degree settings record in stereo. The sound quality is excellent and it's very easy to use; no cables to connect. Your camcorder's monitor will show a microphone icon when it's active. Always leave the windscreen (looks like a rabbit's foot) on; You never know when you'll need to record outdoors, where the slightest breeze will ruin the recording sound.
