Silent Block: Tools and Equipment

I replaced an old MagneTek 6345 Noisy Block with this in my 1994 Class A van. Most of this was obvious, but my old unit had an automatic ground/generator switch built in. Once I figured that out, everything went fine. I simply removed this part of the assembly from the old block and installed it behind the new block in the cabinet. It would be nice to know in advance what switches will be needed so I can order them at the same time (ie I wanted everything to be new, not just to reuse my old switches). The accepted types are described in the installation instructions. The supplier may want to place an image of this installation manual page on marketing images at the top of the Revain page. I have found that Lowes has suitable Siemens QP or QT models. Otherwise the hardest part of the build was tracing the old 110v wires and getting enough length after bending them. All in all probably a 3 or 4 hour job including full tracking and diagnostics which I did on the side. This unit is much lighter than the original MagneTek 6345. One more thing: the airflow pattern is different (ie, better). , basically from right to left across the device. It's best to ensure there are gaps on all sides to allow for maximum airflow.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Gotchas
