The Velcro wears out over time.
Chlorine and pool chemicals may have eaten away materials, but these water shoes didn't make it through the summer. The velcro on the shoe itself (rather than the strap) began to peel off over time. Now the strap just dangles because there is nothing to attach it to. We bought two pairs of these for our daughter and they just don't last. They're not bad water shoes when they're new, and they probably work better in a lake or ocean.
