There are many levels of active biocarriers. Like socks, they come in a variety of sizes, materials, thread counts, thicknesses, etc. I mean, some aquariums do well in a medium-capacity bio environment, while others require above-average performance for sensitive fish and a heavy tank. . . I came up later. I want to avoid all that "my stuff works better than yours" and just state a few facts. 1. MarinePure is the only manufacturer that has presented scientific evidence to support their claims when I conducted a study on 5 major branded products which I accepted as valid. 2. MarinePure is one of the few products that offers rock shaped elements and a 1 inch block under gravel. Why, because this product can replace "living rock" IMO if you seed the bacteria properly for salt water. I have used this product in both salt and fresh water and it is nothing short of amazing, reliable and predictable in my opinion. I used it with Seachem Stability and couldn't expect better results. In saltwater I just put them in the sump and in freshwater in the canister's external filter bowls, but since they're a bit big I filled the small gaps with EHEIM Substrate Pro for maximum volume in the canister. I've used Seachem Matrix, Fluval Biomax, live rock, etc. Now it's my first choice every time, its performance has proven itself for me.
