It's certainly noisier than the smaller version of the same pump, but the noise of the smaller one is virtually non-existent. So I think this one is still pretty quiet compared to others I've tried (like HITOP), but it was loud enough to make it hard to sleep in my room. Covered with a blanket over it, it was bearable. Performance is great for big tanks. I had to turn it to the lowest setting for a 20 gallon tank. I gave it to my sister for her 40 gallon and it's perfect for her needs and it's her quietest pump. She said she would buy shoes from UPETTOOLS from now on lol. I give it a 4/5 because it's louder than the smaller version and a bit bulkier, I had to find another place for it. However, it is the quietest compared to other brands.
