Great winter boots for hiking and snow for the price! I bought two pairs for my 9 year old twins. I bought a youth 6 which gave them some room to grow. Youth size 6 is also suitable for women's size 8. These boots are definitely tough enough for everyday wear on snowy days in northern Idaho. They are worn at school, but are heavier and somewhat bulkier than normal athletic hiking shoes. They are also not warm or heavy enough to be used in winter boots. If you were going to snowmobile all day, you would need better winter boots, but they are perfect for sleigh rides and general walks in snow and mud. You go for greatness. The velcro straps in the picture are offset further because they are too big for him, but don't seem too wide or too narrow. They have a cat-like piece of metal for ice and clutch. My twins love this feature. They sit securely in the tread and neither scratch wooden floors nor snag carpets. This is a fun feature.
