Heavy Duty Kayak Stand

I chose between the VivoHome Stand and the 1006 RAD Sportz Deluxe Stand. There weren't any reviews for VivoHome so I wasn't sure I made the decision. I tried to look closely at the photos and couldn't tell if there was a test difference. I chose the VivoHome Rack because the VivoHome Rack had a heavier shipping weight and I was hoping it would be more powerful. I was not disappointed when the package arrived. This is a heavy duty shelf. The welds are well done, the steel is good and thick. I particularly liked the plug connections for the cross member. This gives confidence in the stability and longevity of the product. The product was nicely packaged, all the details are there. I was impressed with the included bolts and self-sealing nuts, as well as the presence of washers. I was also very impressed with the addition of iron backing plates to reinforce the main brace connections. I definitely did not expect extra stability plates in this price range. The stand was easy to assemble, although I have to admit that I used a ratcheting socket wrench along with one of the wrenches that came with it, which made the job that much easier. I was able to assemble the stand myself in about 30 minutes. I took my time to make sure I understood the instructions. If you have ever built structures you will find that everything makes sense and the design is simple. There was a small dent in one of the crossed sections of the main brace, but a few medium hits with a rubber mallet made the connection complete and tight. A dent violating the integrity of the main frame didn't bother me. I like that they added extra metal legs with a hole that allows the rack to be firmly attached to the floor. I have a shelf on the outside on pavers so I didn't bother to add extra metal legs. The stand is fairly stable without the extra metal feet, and the included rubber feet work well without the extra support. I set up my two-person seat kayak with the hull facing away from the counter to prevent water from collecting when it rains (I still covered the kayak and counter with a tarp). It takes a bit of maneuvering to get this kayak under the top U-beams of this rack to mount it on the bottom beams, but it's not too bad. I have a very heavy Costco double kayak. This kayak is a beast but very stable in the water (it has nothing to do with that stance but I wanted to give you an idea of the stability and strength of the stance). I am very happy with this stand. I don't have another kayak stand to compare but this stand is strong and stable and seems to last a long time. I was happy to take my kayak from my garage down the outside of my house to my side yard. At $150 I thought it was a smart purchase. I would buy this shelf again.
