The item itself is aesthetically pleasing and surprisingly durable. Most complaints appear to be personal issues. I'm glad I'm skeptical about other people's reviews. I had no problems with the hardware. Someone mentioned stripping screws. The screws do not break by themselves. Use the appropriate tool (requires a #2 Phillips socket wrench) and do not overtighten the screws. Door hardware works great once you understand how hinges and latches work. Again, do not overtighten the screws. I'm not sure why anyone would think it's "waterproof". This tree is the joints. I bought it with the intention of leveling the wood with contact paper and caulking the joints with silicone - problem solved. As for people complaining that it stinks - no, as long as you clean your trays regularly, use good quality bedding and wipe away any "water". "If you fill your boxes and let them sit long enough to penetrate the wood, that's not the fault of the product. I had 2 minor issues with it: 1) One of the dowel holes wasn't drilled deep enough - easy fix. I didn't use the dowel. I could drill a hole or cut a dowel but there is no supportive quality between the top and side panel. 2) Picture for step 4 - The holes in the picture definitely do not match the correct position of the screws to allow the cam to be locked in place.
