Review on DEWALT D28499X 7 inch 5.3 HP Angle Grinder by David Fields

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A powerful tool with 9 " limits - be prepared to be plated and blacked out.

I purchased this Dewalt angle grinder to cut large rocks for outdoor landscaping in a mountain environment. The size, weight, and power of this tool are certainly up to the task. It is not an easy tool and any user, especially if you hold this tool in your hands for a while, should be up to the task. You need a lot of arm strength. He weighs 14 pounds! I particularly like the ability to rotate the trigger barrel to accommodate different cutting and sharpening angles. Some reviewers have mentioned that the two-pronged connector is untypical for this professional tool, but that doesn't affect performance. In my opinion. During use, your hands should only come into contact with plastic surfaces, so without a third ground wire there is no risk of electrocution. Era and twist and all was well again. The power cord is 7.5 feet long and has a very large diameter. There are no problems. My problem is related to Dewalt's marketing of this tool. As other reviewers have pointed out, this tool comes with two guards (7" and 9"), a soft-mounted washer, and a screw on the handle. Anticipating a lack of accessories, I ordered a Type 1 Flange Kit (D284932 - $10). When I received the tool and flange kit, I found that you would also need a Dewalt reversible wrench (61820-01 - another $8 plus $7 S&H) to use the flange kit. But the real problem for me was that this tool is sold as a 7 inch grinder and as a 9 inch grinder. When I bought this Dewalt grinder I bought a 9 inch Bosch diamond wheel for cutting stones. When I tried to mount the diamond wheel on the tool with the 9" wheel guard provided by Dewalt, it didn't work. I went back and studied the Dewalt DWE4599N manual and of course you need a third type of wheel guard. This protection is Type 1 Protection (D284931 - $53). Yes $53! And this protective case is only 7 inches tall. Dewalt does not make a 9 inch Type 1 wheel guard. So I have a new Bosch 9 inch diamond wheel for sale. There are at least two other "accessories" that you must purchase in order to use this tool on other grinding wheels. I am disappointed with the lack of transparency on the part of Dewalt. when it comes to what we as users need to buy extra to actually use this tool. Maybe it's better to take a look at the 7 inch Bosch grinder as this Dewalt has limited use of 9 inch tools. The base tool is priced at $153, but with "Accessories" you can easily get it for $231 or more. 2 Prong Wrench (61820-01) included. That doesn't make $53 that bad given the extra detail. But now I have two sets of flanges and two wrenches. Dewalt took care of me!
