This is a beautiful chopping board. I really wanted a dark wood and looked at another board, but settled on this one for a number of reasons. I do not regret it. This is a real work of art. I leave it on the counter (leaning against the wall) and it's just very pretty to look at and I often forget that it's actually a tool that you have to use. I use it though. This board is strong, big and quite heavy. However, the notches on the ends make it easier to grip. The only reason I don't keep it flat and ready to use on my island is because we have two Maine Coons that insist on coming to the island and they will lie on it. I do not want that! I bought John Boo's Block Essential Mystery Oil and Board Cream and Clark's Oil & Wax Round Applicator. I have only used oil on this board so far. It seems to aid in his conditioning well and this applicator works for me because it holds excess oil, not a rag to soak it up and waste it. We live in a high desert environment where it's fairly dry and keeping this board in good condition with grease/wax is key to making sure it doesn't eventually tear. I also don't soak it in the wash - I quickly rinse with cold water, pat dry, then let dry completely. Perfect gift. We kept the box and will use it for something. It was a pity to throw it away (burn it), so we'll find a use for it. However, the circuit board is not put back in the box!
