Review on πŸ“Ά Intel Wireless-AC 9260, 2230, 2x2 AC+BT, Gigabit (Non-VPro) by Robert Prix

Works with low-cost HP 15-ba079dx laptop with AMD A10-9600P quad-core processor after Intel driver update.

We have several HP 15-ba079dx laptops that are used by kids and HP installed horrible old Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi adapters in them, so everything kept their slow connection Frequency 2.4 MHz interfered when we have high-speed fiber optic connection. So it was annoying. A month ago I tried installing one of these in one and it didn't work on Windows 10, but yesterday I tried again and it worked. It looks like Intel fixed the driver and is now working with the system. I recommend Intel WiFi_20.60.0_PROSet64_Win10.exe driver or higher. 20.50.1 also worked. You need to add the Bluetooth driver separately. As for why they don't combine them, I'm not sure. Since the laptop only had one antenna, I took a couple of NGFF antennas and added an antenna to the two laptops in the unshielded areas of the case (the default antenna was used for one connection). All in all, this is a good and inexpensive upgrade for a valuable system. Important Note: Once everything is set up, go to Device Manager and Properties for the 9260 and disable the system's ability to turn off the card to save power. The new card is probably using more power, which is why it can't seem to wake up. This is not unusual in such value systems. Notebook speeds have increased from 5-30 Mbps to 200 Mbps (current service limit). If I switch to 500Mbps or 1Gbps it will be able to handle that.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Reliability
