Review on πŸ”‘ Unlocking Craftsmanship: The Pocket Hole Drilling Jig Project Book (Popular Woodworking) by Eric Speers

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Some decent but outdated plans. It's still worth it, but not as good as I thought it would be.

After reading all the rave reviews on here I thought this book had more plans and better plans. Much of this material seems outdated and just plain boring. A bookshelf that I am very disappointed in. The one that comes with the Kreg Jig is the best in my opinion. However, this book will tell you about pocket holes, their placement, etc., so I'd say it's worth it. Just add your imagination to some of these plans and you will be fine. Anyway, isn't that all woodworking is about? Most of the book focuses on Kreg jigs, but there are a few others, including homemade ones. If you just bought a Kreg Jig and are unfamiliar with pocket holes, this book will be of great help. I really haven't found many paperbacks with holes, and most carpenters seem biased against pocketholes. I suspect purists don't like them for some reason as they'd rather wait days to glue etc. Kreg Jig makes one of the tightest joints I've seen and gets most of the job done quickly because glue really isn't even necessary, although I still use a little.

Pros
  • Decent execution
Cons
  • Lack of thought
