Put my water heater on to measure run time. I have a 3/4 gallon per hour jet and can calculate exactly how much oil I'm using at a given outside temperature. More accurate than looking at an analog float switch on the tank. I use it in conjunction with an energy monitoring system to determine if I should turn on an alternative heating system. Also, I plan to buy more to connect to different zones to see which zone is consuming more than I planned for maximum savings. For example, can I lower the temperature in the basement by a few degrees and how much does that really save? EDIT: First counter was 173.7 hours, thought I had a lemon, second counter was 95.1 hours and would examine other equipment.
