If the package is torn off the roll, it will tear the package itself.
I bought this because it was the perfect size for one of my trash cans in my bathroom. If you tear a single bag off the roll, if you are not careful or tear too quickly, you will actually tear a hole in the bag. I bought a different size of these bags and haven't had any issues with holes. Not sure if this size had a small defect, but slowly removing a separate pouch makes it less likely to tear a hole in it.
