I took it out of the box and spread it out on the floor in a well-lit and warm room. It never grew in size, and while I suppose it may appear 3 inches in some places, it's just air. I was going to say it really is about an inch thick if you're on it, but I read another review that suggested 1/2 inch, so yeah, definitely not 3, BUT. I recently bought a new mattress and it seems too hard, I don't like it so I looked at all these options. It was cheap enough that I ended up buying because the description said 3 inches and overflow. Disappointing but still even down from 1/2 to maybe 1 inch which is really over, I feel a definite improvement in sleep, I no longer feel like I'm on a hard floor. As an aside I've seen cheaper ones that don't match their description so mine pay less too and buy the one that says it's 1.5" because it's probably lol. The ad also said it was easy care and Machine washable. No definitely not, the label says spot clean only. Very deceptive. I don't like being overpaid for fairy tales. I just bought a 4" memory foam topper lol and I'm going to give it to mine Give dog, maybe for the inside of a kennel, or throw him out. So hope this helps. In short, spend less for a version that is 1-2" thick. Or - Spend a few bucks more and get you what you really want which is nice and thick plush that feels like you're sleeping on clouds right lol well it's not at all you need a good thick memory foam topper regret impulse buys lol
