I have an '08 Road King with a Progressive 444 in the rear and a Touring Link. I've been trying to improve the handling of this bike for several years. I will say that buying good tires is the first step. Touring Link improved it a bit. The 444s were also a big improvement over the stock rear air shocks, but I still regularly got lethal wobble on wavy pavement or certain bumps, along with the vaguely standard Harley handling. Late one night I made the decision to finally buy some standard height monotubes and they arrived in a matter of days. I have decent mechanical skills, good tools and recent experience removing Harley fronts. The installation took about 7 hours from start to finish with lots of breaks and distractions. I think a real mechanic would probably need half of that. As with most Harley projects, you'll need a service manual to get it right. The instructions are more than adequate and Progressive has several installation videos that are very helpful. I recommend checking them out before you start. I weigh 185 pounds and I don't drive on the windshield or on the freeway. I ride 14" Hanger Monkeys and ride "assertively" or "on purpose" most of the time. Several days at a time. I commute to work on the freeway and on country roads with the boys on weekends. I've called progressives and asked specifically how many spacer clamps I should use given my bike weight/gear/pillion weight and riding style. They were very helpful and told me not to listen to the internet babble I was reading.I have used the standard version with ride height and installed with 2 spacers as they recommend, some complained that it was stiff and recommended using 1 spacer but I'm happy with 2. The ride is firm but not harsh at all for me or tiring.I didn't notice any change in ride height as some have claimed, but I also forgot to measure before disassembly.First thing on the road au What fell was how much more seat the bike had at any given speed. The Corner King is faster and smoother than before because the bike enters corners faster, tracks better and doesn't want to drift as far as before. Significantly improved braking performance. Harley's proverbial death wobble is gone, save for the occasional reference to it on a few rare occasions. No doubt the front is stiffer but I hardly notice it now and it has never bothered me as I prefer a hard ride to a soft ride. Bottom line: I've put about 500 miles on them and I'm very happy with my purchase. Even combined with rear shocks and a touring suspension, it doesn't solve all of the HD's handling problems, but it's a definite improvement. I don't think you can do much better without spending a LOT more money.
