This item is great but you must follow their instructions - they emailed me a separate email after I ordered it and it's a good thing they did because I would don't even think about this configuration, although it's pretty obvious when you see it. This is how I set mine up and it works fine. Ejected litter hits the wall and falls onto the mat and is perpendicular to the litter, forcing cats to walk on it when leaving the house. This is the XL version. The texture is rubbery, with small sewn holes for the filler to get into. We have a tiled floor so the trash will always be everywhere, and I swept every few days and shook it barefoot off my feet. When this is in place there are a few pieces off (literally about 3) but it's much, much better than before. I can't recommend it enough!
