I looked through dozens of similar lamps and looked for the best value for money. Needed a light for a shop bench and wasn't really looking for a magnifying lamp but figured for the price why not. either broken or not working. I didn't have such problems. I can't comment on the function of the table clamp (alternative method of attachment), but using the base option gives excellent results - the base is quite heavy and doesn't tip over when the gooseneck is inverted. -located. I ordered a lamp with the idea that I would use a clip but the base works so well that I didn't go down that route. Very happy with the purchase.
