I use this belt as a dress belt simply because it is smaller in width and weight than a 1 3/8 inch belt. positions the ratchets slightly closer to the open end of the strap, allowing for more flexibility of use, and also allows you to cut more of the strap, reducing the amount of excess strap left after closing. All in all, this is the best belt of its kind and I have purchased many of these belts and their ratchet buckles.
