Review on MinLiving Invisible Turnbuckle Threaded Receiver by Mick Ohlrogge

Revainrating 3 out of 5

good value but not the best

I had to use TuffGel as thread lubricant, they loosen and don't tighten the cable, you have to grab the cable with a vise and the cable clogs. Use lube and load the threads before installing them in the guide, they connect much easier. The ends of the fittings are large, use a 1/2" drill bit to install the adjustable fitting. Protective sleeves as when correctly assembled at a 4 x 4 angle the block will take up too much clearance and not allow the sleeve to be fully pushed into the hole. I cut them to 3/8 inch lengths on my bandsaw. This is a real project. If you think it's easy, it's going to be difficult for you. A jig or drill is required for drilling. I used both and messed up one of my posts before figuring out how to use a template and drill a diagonal hole in a straight line. (Draw a line at the top of the post representing the path of the drill bit, set the jig, use a drill bit with a 1/4" long shank and keep the shank of the bit in line with the mark as you drill Eye while drilling It takes several times to perfection but after that it's easy I suggest you practice with a 4 x 4 trim hole first Make a template out of the 2 x 4 and attach it to the drill bench machine. Draw a line down the center of the 4 x 4. Cross the lines where you will insert the drill and drill.I could build a stair railing in less than half the time it took to make the cable railing.It was all a learning curve Would I do it again yes much quicker knowing the ropes.;

Pros
  • Easy installation - receiver can be rotated to tighten the cable. Hex head to prevent slipping when tensioned. The kit includes 3 Allen keys.
