It opens easily and fits around 1 " OD pipe

They don't seal tight on 1-1/8" OD pipe! Even though it says so in the description. NOT CORRECT! Fully enclosed, 1-1/16" ID! I suggest going for a 3/4" OD. It opens easily and bypasses the 1 inch pipe. Return or eat, not sure yet, depends on Amazon's return policy. , I'm really fed up with the wrong information on this popular site. Be careful or you will be bitten. you have been warned
