I really like this canister filter. I use it in a greenhouse for a koi aquarium. It's pretty quiet here, although I wouldn't mind if it wasn't because it's almost outside. The electronic controller built into it is pretty cool: you can control the power of the pump, and it has a timer for the UV lamp so it doesn't run 24/7 like my underground pond should last longer. I work 2 hours a day with no problems even though the fish has only been loaded for a couple of weeks. The control screen is extremely difficult to use. The buttons have no feedback and you have to press really hard for them to work. A little frustrating when you need to change settings. Like some of the other reviewers, I seriously doubt the claimed bitrates. I run it with the exit about 2 feet higher than the inlet. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the flow rate is less than 400 gallons per hour. My filter is mounted on a plywood bench shelf right next to the tank. If I even hit the shelf, the filter will suck in air (presumably from the air intake on the filter) and push bubbles through for a moment. It's a little annoying, but doesn't seem to do any harm. Of course I didn't see any water leakage. My biggest complaint about this filter is that it somehow lets particles through. The atomizer gets clogged daily with pieces of water hyacinth roots that I have in my aquarium. They only get straight from the filter into the atomizer. I wonder how many smaller particles have to race through it. I use 3 trays of the provided filter pads and the last tray contains organic beads from a pond filter I have outdoors. I can only assume that the particles bypass the bowls entirely instead of being pushed through the filter media. This is obviously a pretty big problem and I'm not sure how to solve it. If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them. Searching the internet I couldn't find any information on this.
