I think Rema patches are the gold standard. I mountain bike in an area where I regularly collect spikes. So I go through a box of 100 every few years. This time I decided to try and save a few bucks and go for a cheaper brand. I was ready to be disappointed. I have already used about 10 patches. They work great. One comment I read said that patches tend to blow on the tube. This will happen with any patch if it is applied while there is air in the tube. When the tube is fully deflated the patch will be the same size as the rubber of the tube underneath and will stay flat when deflated and stretch a little when inflated. My patching method: (1) Find the hole and mark it with a permanent marker (2) Clean and dry the area thoroughly, especially if using talc in the tire (3) Buff the area to be patched with 100 grit sandpaper or whatever is included in the kit (4) apply a small amount of adhesive to the patch area to about 1/4 inch beyond the edge and allow to dry completely (5) while the adhesive dries, remove the patch liner from the Apply a little more glue to the patch, but not the plastic (6) and immediately press the patch in place from all sides. If you don't need the tube, let it dry overnight. After a few minutes, the tube is safe to inflate again and check for more holes. I recently patched the tube only to find two more holes after installing it on the bike. I like to inflate the tube to about 1 1/2 times. normal diameter, then submerge it in water to find those really tiny holes. needed - ever. Be sure to run your fingers across the inside of the tire several times to check for remaining studs. Applying talc to the inside of the tire will make this task easier. The only way out is to buy patches of 100 pieces. It costs about the same as a pair of sets. The kits contain pads of different sizes. I've never used anything other than small round patches. waste of money.
