I put this in a small humidifier I bought to prevent the humidifier from bringing bacteria into the house and causing upper respiratory infections. I also thought it would extend the life of the humidifier. It turns out one of the little balls in that wand got stuck in the humidifier and made a weird noise. Luckily I sprayed the air intake with a spray faucet and it fell out of the car. Even with the tank there was hardly any difference. So now I wash the tank with soap and water and the stand it sits on once a week, then rinse with a strong jet from the spray faucet. When I fill the tank with tap water (we have hard water from Lake Michigan) I add about a tablespoon of white vinegar to the water tank and this prevents bacteria from growing in the tank and limescale from building up in the tank. a cradle in which all the actions of the humidifier take place. Hope that helps. Aldi sells a whole gallon of vinegar very cheaply, so don't waste your money on these chopsticks.
