I used this little filter pump to complement my existing filter rather than buying a new hanger or canister system for more flow and filtration. It was a bit of a gamble but for under $20 why not. I figured this would add the extra water flow I wanted and the extra filtration sounded good for my planted 30 gallons. Definitely a great buy. I was skeptical after using it for the first time because the pump was so loud. By the time I got home from work, he had calmed down considerably. I would not recommend this system for less than 30 gallons. Even with a complete reduction in flow, the pump is still working pretty hard. This is a great addition to your existing filtration system for certain sized tanks. Plus, rated at over 100 gallons per hour, it's a great way to keep my tank going if my rear suspension fails.
