Best Alternative to Ziss

I ended up falling down the same YouTube rabbit hole that probably made you watch this one Read review here at 2am on a work night wondering if you really need to add this to your aquarium? (Yes) Do your fish really need more surroundings? (probably) Will it be bulky in my aquarium? (Kind of, but easy to hide) Would I hate to notice it there? (It's unlikely to be quite mesmerizing watching all that media flow.) Is it loud? (He blows bubbles). This thing is about 70% full of K1 in the main chamber. I added about a handful of lava rocks that I hadn't collected outside of the casino before boiling them and tapping them lightly with a hammer. You can use a Seachem matrix, ceramic rings, coarse gravel, or nothing at all. It's super extra, you don't have to, but I have plenty of time and extra funds so I've maximized the space this thing takes up in my aquarium. My second sponge was a bit damaged as it looks more like an egg. shape as a circle. I went with the flow, put it on a regular sponge and squished them both in there for extra support. This filter for me is secondary to the mounted filter which provides good water purification but is not the most stable biofilter as I take out this cartridge every month. I use this filter as a large aerated biofiltration chamber. For that purpose, it has the potential to become an incredible filter. It won't leave you with crystal clear water like a hob, that's not really the point, although that little pre-filter sponge will pick up some dirt, it's not a pump and it won't whip. your water. If you have another filter that provides good water flow and cleanliness, it will make your aquarium more stable. However, if you remove k1 entirely and replace it with a better filler like the one above, you'll get about 10x better results. I went in half because I like watching k1 twist and it's decent media, but it's not meant for this app, it's meant for massive systems. However, it is self-cleaning, which encourages the development of stronger and younger bacteria. If you don't already have a sump or canister to hold a decent amount of medium, you should probably buy one. It is well put together, comes with many media. I wouldn't spend an extra $10 on a Ziss when this thing can instantly take care of the biofiltration in your tank and clean its surroundings on its own.

Pros
  • Comes with enough media similar to K1 micro, first swims then starts doing somersaults after a few days
Cons
  • Big and bulky
