I have been playing the bassoon for about six months now and this absorbent mug is a must have for anyone who wants to play well. Because the bassoon uses a double reed, it is much more difficult to wet the inside of the reed simply by soaking it in your mouth, making it much more difficult to play. However, this cup makes it relatively easy to soak the entire cane. There are several specific elements of this mug that make it better than some others on the market. Firstly it is not quite visible in the picture but the mug has markings for the water volume: 30ml, 45ml and 60ml as well as 1oz, 1.5oz and 2oz. oz. I don't use these markers all the time, but it's a neat feature that makes it easy to work out how much water you need based on the number of reeds you're soaking at one time. Another good point is the metal clip that allows you to attach the mug to the music rest. After a few hours of rehearsal, I find it much easier to just leave the reed wet than trying to find a place where other musicians or I won't bump into it. I've personally never had this problem, but if you're using one of the smaller foldable music stands this clip may not work as some of the rests are too small in diameter for the clip. The only downside to this product is the cup lid which doesn't fit me. I'm not sure if this is always the case, or if I just accidentally received a dud. Nevertheless, I recommend this cup because it has many positive properties and makes playing the bassoon easier!
