This is in no way suitable for a child. At first glance, the plastic hinges appear stable, but as soon as pressure is applied to them, they sag. My child under the age of 1 could change the conformation of this barrier. As others have said, it doesn't stand still. It doesn't have rubber feet or rug clips, so my kid pushes right into all the things I'm trying to keep in check. This causes the rug to roll under the gate (can't imagine putting it directly on my hardwood floor!). Even scarier is that my baby opened the gate at 13 months. Not with a childproof lever, which is only a matter of time, but by spreading the frangible barrier just enough for the trap to open. If I wanted my child to be able to play inside or outside, I wouldn't have a latch to keep the gate open. This makes it very dangerous for the baby. If the company had spent a little more money making solid metal joints and rubber feet this would have been a five star product and I would have spent the money and bought a second one. Pros: Very attractive compared to other barriers. can be increased by buying a second block (which I would do if it wasn't junk). Cons: Cheap plastic joints require almost no pressure to fail. Connections take quite a long time to loosen and tighten during reshaping. (Often made for vacuuming) Vertical bars make passage easier for small hands. Doesn't hold toys. The gate can be opened by pushing the thin barrier aside. There is no bolt holding the gate open. The shakes are a lot of fun especially the gate which makes a great smack. Bottom line: If you're trying to exclude a small area or keep a puppy or other small pet at bay, and you can mount both ends to a wall, you might be fine. Selection.
