I'll start with the cons. This hat looks a little silly with a sun cloak. In addition, the cape can block out the desired wind better than traditional wide-brimmed sun hats, and the mesh panels on the sides of the hat close up when the cape is attached, slightly reducing breathability. Everything else is positive. First, the hat is very light and comfortable. Although sold in different sizes, it still has a velcro closure (like many baseball caps). The cape is detachable and securely fastened with two metal clasps at the brim of the hat and a fabric loop at the back. Remove the cape and you have what looks like a regular running cap, which can sometimes be desirable. The hat is very breathable, even when the cape and mesh inserts are closed. The fabric is nice to the touch (I think that's sort of a cool pillowcase). It doesn't repel rain but dries very quickly if it gets wet. With the cape, the hat protects my neck, ears and face better than any other sun hat I've used (I bought it mainly for camping, by the way). Even a wide-brimmed hat doesn't provide particularly good protection when the sun is low in the sky or near bodies of water where sunlight reflects from below. And unlike a wide-brimmed hat, this hat can be worn under a hood if rain or cold becomes an issue. Putting sunglasses on the brim of such a hat is also easier. The cape is light enough that even a light breeze will move it for good airflow, but if you want it to stay in place the adjustable chin strap will keep it in place. Descent. This can provide a small amount of heat retention in cold winds. It also provides some protection from flying insects. I am happy with mine and would recommend it for hiking, camping, fishing and many other outdoor activities where sun protection is an issue.
