For such a light vacuum it has pretty decent suction. Obviously it cannot be compared to an upright vacuum cleaner and the brushes do not shake the carpet to remove dust more effectively. It works best in small spaces, on stairs, in a car. My biggest criticism of the vacuum cleaner is that it doesn't have a narrow nozzle like most vacuum cleaners. This makes it difficult to pick up things like sand from the carpet in the car. The cord is also fairly short, only about 12 feet long. So if you don't have outlets conveniently located where you want to vacuum, get an extension cord (no grounding required). Approx. 25 disposable vacuum bags are supplied. However, they are tiny. After washing both machines, the bag will be about half full. And I can't find where to get replacement bags. The engine is pretty loud. I definitely recommend hearing protection (or at least soundproof headphones) when using it. It also generates quite a bit of static electricity and leaves a thin layer of dust on the outside after use. The motor also generates quite a bit of heat, and you can feel it after just a few minutes of use. I had no trouble running it for about 15 minutes. For hard surface cleaning, I find the Swiffer to be much faster and more efficient. This would be more useful for carpeted surfaces, but again I really wish they had a narrow nozzle attachment. I tried using the one my vacuum had but it doesn't fit. Assuming vacuum bags can be found I would only recommend them for a small apartment or for specific uses like a car/RV.
