This is an inexpensive set of paring knives. Good steel, crazy in Switzerland, they stay sharp for over a year. We liked them so much that we bought a second set and use them as knives for steaks, as well as for cutting vegetables and for cooking. The handles are plastic and the blades are thinner, but these aren't survival knives, they're kitchen knives and they do the job very well. Not the prettiest look, so if you love pretty kitchen utensils, Victorinox makes knives with rosewood handles (or they used to be), or if you're feeling brave and savvy you can cut/pry off the handles and make your own to protect the blade (and yourself themselves, they are VERY sharp) while doing this.
