Review on Mishimoto MMAI-E46-99BK High-Performance Air Intake Kit for BMW E46 3-Series 1999-2005 in Sleek Black Design by Dewitt Bhattacharya

It also gave the car a slight turbo-like squeal as all the air was sucked in.

The first mod I bought for my E46. I installed it along with the Mishimoto silicone intake boot to complement the improved intake and to serve as preventive maintenance. Installation was delayed only by the tricky placement of the worm gear clamps on the old boots when I tried to take them off, a step only required when upgrading or replacing. I had to fit the filter over my elbow before hooking it up to my existing mass air flow sensor so it would fit behind my headlights, which didn't seem right, but it could be the result of improved silicone suction shoes. In general, the car became a little more responsive and the engine started roaring a little louder when you step on the pedal. It also gave the car a little turbo-like whistle as all the air was sucked into the air intake with every acceleration. I walk every day for about a month without any problems, very happy with the purchase. Side note: In case someone like me is wondering, the temperature behind the intake flap is noticeably cooler than in the engine compartment, even after aggressive driving.

Pros
  • Powder coated heat shield prevents unwanted hot air from entering the air filter
Cons
  • So so
