Review on πŸ“± Logitech Harmony 1100 Universal Remote: Color Touch Screen, Discontinued by Manufacturer by Jermaine Logan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So far so good, with a few "buts "

I've been using Harmony remotes since they first came out. I've never had an issue that a little tweaking and, on rare occasions, a quick call to Logitech support couldn't fix. I have used the Harmony One for home theater and loved it. Unfortunately I fell victim to the geek call and decided I had to try the 1100. I ordered the remote control and unpacked it. As many have said, the fact that you have to start from scratch can be a bit inconvenient, but in my case I didn't mind as some new components and some optimizations were added. The remote has been great so far and the two-handed design is actually quite nice. I never memorized the buttons on my H1, so sometimes I had to look down and skip 0.01 seconds of a movie or show I was watching. The 1100's screen is very sharp and actually looks very sharp for a remote screen. Touch response is quite good, and even when just using the IR remote, the remote is forgiving of "aiming". I can leave the remote on the coffee table, press a button and it takes care of everything without you having to keep the remote right next to your system. So far my time with 1100 has been very positive and the comments and comments I'm getting from people have been interesting. Even if the price is a bit high, I think it was worth it. I am currently running the following: Sony SXRD 60 inch LCD monitor; Sony PS3 Slim (Logitech PS3 BT Adapter); mostly up, but sometimes fails to get a component into action here and there. For example, when you click Play Xbox, sometimes the TV doesn't respond, but the receiver and Xbox do, while sometimes the Xbox doesn't respond, but the TV and receiver do. I'm working on some fixes, but I think it'll eventually lead to one of those rare calls I've had to make to support. Overall, I would deduct half a star for this small issue. But it looks like it could be fixed with a phone call. If I could do it again and again I would still buy the remote and the price will likely continue to fall. I would say if you are looking for a good remote control, ok build, with a quirky look l touch screen cd. This is a smart purchase. **Update** (4/7/10) A few weeks ago, Logitech updated the firmware for the Harmony 1100. I have to say it was a real improvement. As I mentioned, I had some trouble turning actions on and off in the correct order, and my Xbox 360 and PS3 were the culprits. I changed the time settings and the order of recording, but nothing worked. After this update from the Harmony website, my remote worked like clockwork. Pressing "Actions", "Play XBOX" turns on the TV, AV Receiver, and Xbox 360 and dims the lights. All in all, this update has made the 1100 series near perfect in my opinion and application.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Hard to say
