Reasons to choose Faber Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils/Color Wheel

I bought a set of 120 Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils because (1) they match the colors and have the names of traditional oil paints so I easily know which pencil I need when creating a row from preliminary sketches that I go through before starting the canvas, and (2) all my research on colored pencils has shown that these oil paints are richer and smoother than anything else on the market. What also pleased me is that the colors on the outer shell of the pens actually match the pigment cores of the pens, making it easy to visually identify their colors. Another benefit I've found with these polychrome pencils is that after many sharpenings, not a single point in the barrel of a sharpener I've used with them has broken - most likely because each major pigment is concentrated right in the center corps. Another good reason to buy a Faber Castell Polychromos set is that, unlike many other sets, you can easily replace your most frequently used pencils from open stock. When working with color theory, the first thing I do with each new set of pigmented materials is look for the twelve colors that most closely match the colors on the color wheel. These colors when presented in pencil form are then marked at the top with a full band of art tape onto which I print with permanent ink, multiple times around the pencil for quick identification, initials of the overall color on the color wheel. . This minimizes any hesitation in choosing for me while I work. Any other shades, tints or tones from other colored pencils needed later will be added later. Twelve pens I chose from a set of 120 polychrome pens to represent the color wheel as accurately as possible: Y: Light Cadmium Yellow (105) -- YG: Light Green (171) -- G: Leaf Green (112) -- BG : Cobalt Turquoise (155) - B: Phthalo Blue (110) - BV: Delft Blue (141) - V: Purple Violet (136) - RV: Mid Violet Pink (125) - R: Deep Scarlet Red (219) - RO: Cadmium Red Light (117) - O: glaze orange (113) - YO: chrome yellow deep (109). These crayons are fun to work with and worth every dollar invested in them. .

Pros
  • SUPERB LIGHT STICK - Each Polychromos pencil contains the highest quality pigments for long-lasting color and unmatched lightfastness (resistance to fading).
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
