Review on 🧲 Magswitch Universal Base: Versatile Magnetic Mounting Solution for Ultimate Convenience by Mike Diaz

A useless headache

I bought a Magswitch Universal Base to use with my Magswitch 150s which are said to be designed to work together. Of course, it doesn't work if the magnet holders aren't fixed. The base is supplied with screws. As is common these days, I have no idea if they're metric or imperial, so I fish out my allen wrenches. The threaded holes in the base are metal inserts, so you must use the screws that come with this unit. This is normal except they will not go through the holes in the magnet blocks. Again, I have no idea if the magnet blocks are drilled to fractional, numbered, or metric size, or if it's just paint in the holes, but I have to drill them (all four holes; this is a design flaw, not a manufacturing defect). The screws are just over 4mm, so a 4mm drill won't fit. In the end I settled on a fractional drill bit that was enough to make a hole large enough to assemble this device. Drilling these holes is difficult and a little dangerous; The shape of magnetic switches is not designed to fit in a drill press vise, and if you've ever drilled a hole slightly larger than the existing hole in metal, you know the drill bit wants to grab and pull. what they did Eventually I drilled all four holes so the screws would fit without hurting my hands, but I got pulled. I didn't exactly assemble the block because it doesn't fit well because the distance between the holes in the magnetic switch is slightly larger than the distance between the centers of the holes with a threaded insert, so the second screw isn't happy with it being fully tightened what you have to do when you collect the clamp. All of this is, well, sloppy and stupid. I'll make one out of oak. Don't buy, that's my advice to you.
