It took me a month to find out it wasn't compatible with my 2005 E53 X5 3.0i. It was possible to activate the fan with a test tool and by disconnecting the low pressure switch, but the DME was never able to activate it itself; so no air conditioning. Eventually, completely annoyed, I bought and tried another fan and the system worked. Outside the back window, that is.

This fan is working fine so far. My car no longer overheats when I'm stopped at traffic lights or in a traffic jam. Installation was a hassle, but that's not the fans' fault, it's BMW's fault. BMW made it too difficult to replace, but it's doable. It remains to remove the front bumper. Takes about 30-45 minutes if you have another person to help you with full replacement and installation. Perfect fit. If it weren't for the missing BMW logo on the grille, you'd think it's an original part. Also calm. Be sure to restart your computer after installation. If your BMW has registered a fan error, the fan will also be deactivated with a new installation. A fan failure will NOT trigger the check engine light, so you will need to reset even if the light is off.
