Will break down for a bigger rower.

I have used this rudder as a replacement for several years. I let my kids or nieces use it when we have a big party. I'm 6ft 1" and chose to paddle so the kids can use my lightweight, high quality Werner paddles. Three hits and the paddle broke just above the clamp. I think it's strong enough for a smaller rower, but the weight is an issue. It's just not strong enough for a taller rower.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Easily repairable

How well it keeps time remains to be seen, but rental companies that use it have been satisfied. It floated well (in salt water) even after being forced into the water to test it, it bent in use but didn't break, it's great that it can be adjusted and I've recommended smaller customers to use it . It's really easy. So far, so good!

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • A few quibbles

Does the job perfectly for paddle

I bought this early last summer and used it throughout the summer and now early this summer. It didn't break when I used it about 3/4 of its maximum length. Overall it's been reliable so far, I've heard from people with more experience that it flexes decently which reduces hitting power, but it's definitely been worth the price. Great paddle to get me into the sport and I think I can use it for a few more years.

  • Alright!

Too weak at 83 " setting

I ordered two of these paddles and they seemed to work very well, but on the first ride the set at 83" broke inside as the fiberglass is not strong enough to to withstand normal rowing. I noticed that it started to bend in my friend's hand as he rowed and I didn't think about it until the handle broke. Using this paddle with settings of 72-75" is great BUT you can't stretch it to the max for a 6ft adult. PS - it floats.

  • Weight

Do not buy ! Potentially dangerous.

This paddle broke just above the adjustment ring. The third time, no more than 8 miles down the Delaware River, I fell in the water when the resistance just vanished as it broke. one was injured. With or without a passenger, it was possible to be caught by the tide or current, or run aground due to rudder weakness. However, the laughter wasn't worth the money spent. fake reviewers. agents came. 7)

4 stars only because I have a limited number of uses

Well I've used this paddle 5 times, I row about 3 hours at a time in choppy and slippery conditions. So far so good, I dropped it and found that there is foam in the grip area to make it float. I also applied silicone grease to the paddle pivot area just to seal it better. So far I love it and for the price I got it for I can't complain one iota. I think it would be better to get one for those longer trips but still nothing to complain about.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging

Broken on the 4th stroke

The paddle broke on the 4th stroke in the water. Calm sea, no wind and I wasn't aggressive with it. The place where the upper pole enters the second pole is broken. I have another paddle (different brand) but I wanted to have a backup. I've been using another paddle regularly for several months (and been rougher on it) and have never had a problem - not even a stress fracture. I would suggest trying a different brand - it's not worth the risk you'll have the same experience as me. On the plus…

Stretched not strong enough for a tall rower.

I bought this paddle because it is adjustable and allows me to dial in the paddle length I want before buying a better fixed length paddle. Seems like a good paddle for the price but not great if you are tall. I'm 6ft 2in and 195# in pretty good shape. I extended it to the 5th from last lock and was about 2 miles from my truck on my second trip when it broke on the 5th. from the last position within the join. It could still be used as a short paddle and I came back paddling on my knees. At…
