This mat is just what I was looking for. It's soft but pliable; he hugs the top of the bench. It has handy component pockets and a built in magnet to hold screws securely so they don't slip or get in the way. I gave a presentation emphasizing the need to avoid unnecessary ESD by using such a mat and a grounded ESD soldering iron. This is the winner I would recommend.

This mat is very well organized and very useful for the beginner or intermediate who constantly gets screw positions mixed up. This mat has 3 magnetic sections, room for your tools, a decent sized workspace for electronics, and some extra coverage sections. Highly recommend if you want to stay organized during renovations. I have done about 16 repairs to this mat so far and would happily recommend it. But be careful, it smells bad for the first week, so keep that in mind.

I bought this because of all the great reviews and maybe I'm just being weird but I just can't stand the smell of this thing. As I unrolled this rug, I thought something had died. It doesn't even have the chemical smell that is typical of new synthetic products. It's like someone cleaning a decaying cyborg with kombucha. I left it outside for a day but the smell is still as strong as when I opened it. Star added because it "would" be helpful if I could wear his scent right under my face.
