I have an octagonal tank, about 3 gallons, but I only keep it a few inches full and despite other bad reviews I have had no problems. It's been working for me since the 8th, today the 13th, and has never stopped. The packaging was fine. Reviews of it being broken into pieces and no instructions are helpful because it's pretty common sense as the filter only fits one way, thin side down, 4 small filter balls go either way, or you can put them in the tank yourself and the small floating suction…

This filter was great initially - I hooked it up to a light switch so I could turn it on and off 2-4 hours a day as the instructions said. Bought a replacement filter. However, the leak stopped after a week. I unplugged the filter, took off the bottom part (which I think has the motor and inlet valve), reassembled everything until it clicked, then reattached the filter to the aquarium wall with suction cups. This filter has become one of my favorites for the price compared to the expensive brand most people use. It works great. The bottom-mounted pump pumps water at high speed, which is great for turtle tanks, etc. She is actually very quiet. Without the sound of the waterfall itself, I wouldn't know it works. The water flow is so even that the African side-necked turtle likes to swim under it in the aquarium. The pump is removed from the filter to allow the impeller to be cleaned if necessary…
