Great sharpening stone! Survive DMT Stones!

Like the Atom 140, the 400 is very rough. Effortlessly laps whetstones and levels stones like Chaptons or Shoura in less than 1 minute. He also quickly mastered the lapping of Japanese natural stones. It's not as fast as the 140, but it doesn't leave deep scratches like the 140. The stone isn't perfect for sharpening in my opinion, but it's perfect for lapping!

Works great as a lapping stone.

It works like a lapping stone for my other water stones and does its job very efficiently. It does not clog and is easy to clean. It is much cheaper than other leveling stones and of course it can also be used for rough grinding. This was recommended to me by a tool sharpener (customer) at the Woodcraft Store. I am happy about the recommendation and this purchase and recommend it to others.

  • Looks great

Ideal for leveling and aggressive work. 10/10

cuts extremely aggressively. I use it to smooth my Shapton glass stones, smooth the back of chisels and bevels, etc. It cuts the s110v like clockwork, I can reshape a high-hard steel edge in just a minute or two. If you use it for leveling rocks I would be wary of using it for other sharpening tasks more than occasionally. Or take two. I ordered mine on this site and received a real one.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Weak Kit

Really great product!

You have Shapton Glass Stones, 500-2000-8000-16000 and I just bought 30000. After spending so many dollars let me assure you there is no better lapping plate than this Atoma 400. Gosh the neighbor's DMT 95 was $134 and the stone sticks to it and the Shapton round is $375. which is a complete rip off, DMT sticks to rock and this atom has a pattern on the surface that doesn't stick to rock and is COMPLETELY FLAT. For the $69 I paid for it, there's nothing better for leveling rocks than this Atoma

Pros
  • There's something there
Cons
  • Obsolete model

Suitable for fine repair and dressing of 500+ grit knives

The Atoma 400 diamond blade is good for dressing 500+ grit whetstones and can also be used as a coarse sharpening plate for knife repairs to serve. Very high quality plate. I like to use an Atoma 400 plate on my Shapton 1000 or higher stones to avoid scratching them too much. 400 is also less aggressive and wears out the stone less. If you're leveling rocks that are less than 500 grit or need to do a major repair on a chipped knife, I'd go with the Atoma 140 instead. Knife. I still prefer the…

This stone cuts FAST

So I know it's a 400 grit diamond stone so it should cut fast right? Well, you'd be surprised how many rough diamonds are as aggressive as a church mouse, in other words, they take forever to do their job. So far this thing has been impressive. I'm a carpenter and I have a ridiculous grinding log for all the different tools in my workshop. There are certain tools that I like to have hollow ground that I use my Tormek on, but on most of my tools (especially carving tools) I like to have a…

Holds water for cutlery and knife accessories

This is a great diamond stone. I've been using it for two years now and, to paraphrase Dylan, "there's nothing I don't like about it." I bought the Atoma 400 to smooth my waterstones - it's quick, easy and the Stones are perfectly flat. After trial and error, I immediately level all the stones I use. Take Atoma, run over the rock a few times and you're done, 30 seconds and the rock is done. I will tell anyone using these plates to use enough water when leveling. I've got some rocks clogging up…
