Newbie Review - all ok

I have no experience with oil stones at all. I first met them while watching a video on how to polish aluminum die casting molds and all the foreigners used them to polish metal to a mirror finish. I soaked them in Norton sharpening oil until they were completely soaked on one end. While these stones were a good start, 1000 grit is not enough to achieve a high gloss finish. After watching more videos it looks like I need at least 1500, 3000 and 5000 grains. They are cheap and suitable for…

Very fragile. . . good for hand and power tools

I am writing this Sunday 8th August 2021 I received this on Thursday 5th August and opened the package. On Friday August 6th I examined the stones. I didn't notice any obvious damage and accidentally tried some of the stones. On Saturday, August 7th, I tried using a stone (240#) to polish the blade of my axe. The stone is broken. I am dissatisfied with this product. I would buy a different product than this one. I do not recommend this product. I think the stones could be good *IF* they were…

Unlike other silicon carbide I use

Well packaged except for the stupid tape but not a deal breaker. With the TSPROF sharpener I started the 1st knife at 220, the stone started to wear out quickly. I used TSPROF and Gritomatic Silicon Carbide. Metal dust usually collects on the blade, but I got more rock sludge than metal with these, but really wasn't expecting much for the money. The grit feels a little rougher than stated, but sharpens the blade. They probably won't last long, but I've only tried them on a long, curved blade…
