I used two of these antennas for a homemade MURS radio communication system between a racing car and a box. The antennas provided sufficient RF system gain to provide nearly seamless coverage of the entire 2.5 mile road. However, the magnet at the base of the antenna is nowhere near strong enough to attach it to the roof of a car. Using a small piece of Gorilla Tape, I glued seven 10 x 2mm neodymium magnets to the base of the antenna. The antenna is not rated for speeds in excess of 100 mph on…

Does what it says in the Portable Audio & Video section

I installed this antenna back center on top of my tundra and had a strong RF signal to nearby repeaters and everyone in a radius of 10 miles . with lots of green trees and small hills, drove 60 mph easily, it is designed for UHF and VHF, 6 meters, it will probably be bad SWR, peel off the paint, then put a 3 meter sticker on a clean place the antenna on it. From here, press the pad fairly hard. Pull the cable with two fingers. You can hit the repeaters at 30 miles or more with the 8-watt…

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • There are nuances

Guess It's All Right

Pretty short. I really wanted a bigger one but I think it does the job. I needed an external antenna for my Baofeng UV5R portable radio because it has a lot of interference in my car. Probably due to the static from the electronics through his body, but I'll admit my reception was good and clear after plugging it in, or it seems to have confirmed my interference theory. However, it really should have a much stronger magnet.

Pros
  • Frequency Range: VHF 136-174MHz, UHF 400-470MHz; Feature: Magnetic Base; gain: 8 dBi; Direction: omnidirectional; Antenna cable: 3m long RG174 cable; Cable connector: SMA jack; Package List: 2 x Antennas (As Shown)
Cons
  • Unbelievable Price

Does what it promises

I installed this antenna on the rear center peak of my Tundra and had a strong RF signal near the repeaters and everyone within 10 miles of the site boundary with lots of green trees and small hills drove 60 miles with no problem per hour, it is made for UHF and VHF 6 meters, will probably be bad SWR, peel off the paint, stick a 3 meter sticker on a clean spot, then put the antenna on it, press the pad fairly hard with only 2 fingers and pull the wire through, With an 8-watt Baofeng UV-5R, you…

Reasonable Price

I am using this antenna on a Baofeng UV5R set up as a mobile phone in my truck. This is an improvement over any portable antenna you can put on it. I was able to use it to successfully talk to a repeater 9 miles away with a lot of terrain in between here and there. I can't even turn on this repeater unless I'm using my Nagoya UT72 antenna. I have a fake 771 antenna, which is great but I can't get a reliable connection to the repeater with it (just a note, I'm not trying to use 771 from a car)…

Cons
  • So far so good
