The quality of the fabric is very good, the buttons are terrible, pliers were needed to fix them. I ordered medium, I'm 5ft 1 in 140lbs and looks like I'm very pregnant, so much room around my waist and legs. Just because I washed it and tried to compress it didn't mean I sent it back. Very disappointed with the Carhartt size chart. Always causes problems.

If you want to wear them over another pair of pants for extra warmth - then I would go up one size - otherwise I would go down a size. The length is the same.
