Spring clip connects to ball socket. The only thing holding the clip to the socket is the plastic nut. It doesn't really support the weight of the phone. The phone just sags so it's not really looking at me. So I tried to tighten the nut. the nut is broken. I tried crazy glue and it didn't work. I tried Bondic and that didn't work either. I ordered this to hold my smartphone as a dash cam in a camper van so it needs to be held still and not move. The packaging for this item was very well done and professional looking. Assembling after I opened the package was pretty easy and easy to put together. I put this on my car's dashboard, it really doesn't slide too much unless you slide it off with your hands. I split 4 and 5 stars for this product. The base is excellent and comfortable. It stays on the dash and is far more useful than the suction cup mounts I've used in the past. However, the clip is not the best design solution. Difficult to use with my large iPhone 7 Plus. As long as it fits, you should maximize the clamp, and it can be difficult to open far enough that your hand gets in the way. A few years ago I had a similar product for my old Garmin GPS so I decided to try it for my phone. I've been using it for over a month and I'm very happy with the product.
