Dry and colorless on art materials

I was looking for quality charcoal pencils to soften up the mess. Since Derwent is a worthy company, I thought this product would be worthy. These pencils are completely dry and practically unusable for my purposes. I'm not sure if these pens tend to be dry or old, but I wouldn't buy this product from VirVentures (the seller I bought them from).

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Very difficult to sharpen

These are very good charcoal pencils that are great for drawing but are very difficult to sharpen. The tips kept crumbling even with several different types of pencil sharpeners. They also don't coat the paper very smoothly, meaning you have to go over the area a few times to keep it from becoming grainy. Otherwise these are great pens and work very well.

Pros
  • Combination of natural charcoal particles with the finest clay
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Regular pencils but prefer Ritmo charcoal

I mostly use Ritmo charcoal from Art Alternatives but decided to give these a try. The darkest darkness isn't black, and the pens take a little more force to convey the color than I'm used to. These aren't bad pencils, but I would recommend Ritmo charcoal pencils for both professional use and beginners. You won't make a bad artist great, but having the right tools is inspiring in itself.

Pros
  • Similar to graphite pencils
Cons
  • Not as thick as others

Got graphite pencils twice!

To be honest this is more of a shipping/seller rating. I like charcoal, but that's not what I have. I received the graphite pencils so I arranged an exchange stating that the wrong item had been sent. I had to speak to someone from customer service to get him through and asked again to make a note so it doesn't happen again and I was able to get the charcoals I need. And again I got graphite. So now I have two sets of graphite that I have to return without getting the 6 packs of coal I wanted…

Pros
  • 4 pens per pack
Cons
  • Crumpled
