The pellets were a complete disappointment, and I regret buying them for my aquarium. Despite following the instructions, my tank became murky and my fish started showing signs of stress. For some reason I noticed a significantly larger change in pH with this Eheim product compared to the version of Fluval peat pellets I was previously using . Great product for lowering pH!

Tap water has a pH of 7.8 and is quite hard. Neutral regulator and discus buffer had no effect on these numbers. I tried. The PH dropped to 7.2 and the water hardness dropped to the ideal level. However, the "rich golden" hue it is said to impart to the water is more akin to a muddy brown. Even my special aquarium light couldn't penetrate the tan to the bottom.
