Either defective or I just didn't understand how to use it. I watched the video, followed the instructions and pictures but couldn't get it to snap. Firstly the latch is plastic and very difficult to move either by latching or sliding out of its latched position. We need to be able to remove our baby gates and move them around and that is NOT easy. Also, they bend and warp when you insert them into a door, which is why they end up all crooked and wobbly. The two pieces that slide over each other push apart and the small tabs at the top and bottom do NOT hold them in place so adjusting and attaching the tabs means pinching your fingers…

Okay I bought this gate thinking it was a hinge type not a plastic knob. They came and I realized Evenflo had changed the style, no big deal I thought at least. The plastic controller is great if you can turn it on and off. I have had this inexpensive Evenflo gate for many years and it has always worked well as temporary pet or child protection. For the record, the cat is mine so I ordered 3 gates so we can open the door by stacking them on top of each other. So the first gate I ordered worked great, it came with fasteners to secure it, little plastic clips that you attach with foam double sided tape and they hold the gate in place.
