Not flat at all. A pronounced arc can be seen with the naked eye. This is doubly frustrating as they unwind as flat as they're supposed to be. Just not true. The surface wears out too quickly and unevenly. DMT beats this joker by a mile. I will never buy anything from EZE-LAP again.

The first test anyone should do with these stones is the flatness test. The rough side was fine, but the middle side (400 grit) was bowed in the middle. A quick check of my cast iron table saw revealed a pronounced crease, but even when viewed from the side I could see a very noticeable crease. Not suitable for tools for sharpening tools. I was also going to buy the SF/F version but that version is coming back and I'll look into alternatives.

I use them a lot to sharpen my planes, chisels and folding knives. Mine have worn to the point where they don't cut as quickly, but still work great and show no signs of damage. The only criticism I have of them is the reversible design itself. In hindsight, I would have preferred not to wipe the plate while sharpening or flip it to move on to the next grit. That being said, the fact that they're mounted with tabs at the end at least gives you a good way to grab the plates if you need to move…
