Suitable for my Toyota Camry 4 cylinder 2002. Rather narrow.

Fits my 2002 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder. The bolts are fairly tight inside and out, but that's a design issue for the Toyota Camry, not a part of the gate. (All you had to do was drill a small hole to access the screws or a 1/2" cutout in the inner frame/housing and it would have been 200% easier).

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons

Good Replacement Toyota Camry 4 Cylinder 2002

Unlike another person who said the old 2002 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder tensioner was difficult to remove but it was very difficult to put the new tensioner back on. I've found that I don't have the ability to paste this as a whole. As a result, I removed the connecting bolt in the middle and installed it in two parts first.

Perfect Fit Camry 2005

Part fits perfectly. Many patients have had to remove the old part and install a new one, but this is entirely doable for the home master. I took the sprocket off because I had to get a second tensioner and send back the first one I had. The first one I got looked like it had been installed and uninstalled before. It was smeared with machine grease, there were scratches and the box it came in had been previously opened. The part might be good, but I didn't want to risk my time if it didn't…

Belts, hoses, and pulleys rattle

Started making a rattling noise after three weeks. This is my second as the first made the same noise. The first only made a rattling noise when the ambient temperature was below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. After I removed it from my car to return it, it compressed very easily and leaked fluid from the hydraulic cylinder. Instead, I ordered an original Toyota tensioner. I don't know why Gates makes such inferior parts. I have used Gates products in the professional aftermarket for many years.

Failed after 2 years

I thought Gates was a good brand. But this part is disappointing. The original tensioner lasted 10 years. After 10 years, its spring weakened and the belt began to slip. This Gates tensioner has failed spectacularly after 2 years. The plastic top of the cylinder broke, the spring was overstretched. The top of the cylinder pressed the belt against one of the pulleys. I noticed this problem when I saw that the outside of the belt was worn half the width down to the wires and the other half was…

Toyota Highlander 2005

Ideal in combination with the Gates belt tensioner. Both parts looked EXACTLY like OE. According to the mechanic, my old tensioner was loose. The dealer kept urging me to fix the problem ASAP and gave me a "discounted" price of at least $350 just for the tensioner. I wanted to be safe, so I replaced both the tensioner and the belt (although the belt hasn't snapped or stretched yet). I work at a dealer and it is CO discount. Well, I bought both the tensioner and belt for $130 (including tax and…
