Description of ๐Ÿ”ฅ Geekworm 12mm Aluminum Alloy Heatsink (C235) with 30mm Cooling Fan Support โ€“ Compatible with Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 CM4 Motherboard

Geekworm design 12mm aluminum alloy heatsink for Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 CM4; User manual, refer to Geekworm WiKi search C235. Heatsink dimensions: 54x39x12mm/2.12x1.53x0.47inch; Net weight: 30g/0.07lb. Support install 30mm (3007 or 3010) cooling fan above the heatsink. With one piece thermal pad, need to cut proper thermal pad to attach on the CPU of Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. โœ”The C235 heatsink reserve the space to connect the extermal antenna for CM4. โœ”The inclcuded PM2.5x16mm screws length is just for install CM4 module and C235 heatsink, no support CM4 IO board.

Casting, minimally machined but of high quality

Most likely just a casting, hardly machined. It's all powder coated so file/sand/buff the finish on the SOC riser for best results. The included thermal pad isn't too bad, although I replaced the SOC pad with a silver one after a while. Average SOC temp with thermal pad was 40ยฐC (hovering around 60ยฐC without heatsink), with Arctic Silver I didn't see SOC temps over 38ยฐC under reasonable load. In general, an excellent product and small "cons" are fully justified by the low cost.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Wrinkled

not the heatsink you are looking for

Worst of all I find the screws: Both the heads and the nuts are too thick to fit between the cm4 and the I/O board and they are short, to fit through the I/O board into the racks below. Thermal tape is a joke and doesn't sit flat on the chips so make sure you don't over tighten and crack the board. I could drill holes for the screws to go through and fit into the I/O board standoffs, but overall: not worth it.

Great option for CM4

This heatsink works surprisingly well. I initially gave a bad review because the supplied mounting screws and nuts didn't fit - I couldn't connect to the carrier board at all with the heatsink installed in the description. But after replacing the 2.5mm bolts and nuts with something more suitable, this cooler works great. I had a CM4 with this and a 4010 Noctua fan on top and the CPU overclocked to 2147MHz in 24 hours and couldn't get past 40C.

Pros
  • Heatsink
Cons
  • Slightly dented

Perfect fit and a good large mass for heat transfer. However, as the title says, if you follow the compilation in the product image description, these screws are too short to go through the heatsink/CM4/motherboard - however, if you reverse the screws so that the head of the screw is at the bottom the CM4 board and the nut on top of the heatsink they fit perfectly although unfortunately they don't look good. Also, don't over-tighten the bolts/nuts, there is some room under the legs and if youโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Small parts

The heatsink I received is properly attached and touches both chips with only one layer of thermally conductive foam. (It was included in addition, be sure to remove the insulating plastic). I'm deducting a star because the included screws are only long enough to attach the heatsink to the CM4 module and not long enough to go through the CM4 base I/O carrier. So if you want the CM4 board to be more securely attached to the CM4 IO, you will need longer screws. Maybe it doesn't matter much sinceโ€ฆ
